Kamuy Kotan
One of Asahikawa's premier scenic spots, whose landscape is especially beautiful in autumn
Meaning "Village of the Gods" in the Ainu language, Kamuy Kotan was designated in 1997 as one of the "Eight Views of Asahikawa," a collection of the city's most representative landscapes. Between early and mid-October, the area is ablaze with the vibrant autumn hues of rowan, Japanese oak, and maple trees. Furthermore, rugged and peculiarly shaped rocks line the rushing waters of the Ishikari River for about 10 kilometers. Renowned for its breathtaking autumn foliage, it is a highly popular destination cherished by locals all year round.
