Kamikawa Daisetsu Sake Brewery “Ryokkyu Gura”
Local sake brewed with the community
Kamikawa Daisetsu Sake Brewery, established in 2017, is located within Japan’s largest national park, Daisetsuzan. Using Hokkaido‑grown sake rice and koji and natural spring water drawn from the foothills of the Daisetsuzan range, the brewery — with the support of local volunteers — produces rich, mellow sake using traditional hand‑crafted methods.
Believing that great sake begins with great ingredients, the brewery’s owner prioritized rice and water quality over logistics and cost, relocating the company from Mie Prefecture some 1,500 km to Kamikawa for the sake of optimal terroir. Visitors can purchase the brewery’s locally produced sake and take a tour; for hygiene reasons tours are conducted from an outdoor viewing window only, and may be unavailable during periods of heavy snowfall.
