Higashi Kagura Shrine
A perfect blend of Meiji-era history and modern art. A spiritual power spot in Higashikagura Town adorned with fluttering pinwheels
Founded in 1897, this historic shrine was originally worshipped as "Kagura Shrine" before officially becoming "Higashikagura Shrine" in 1918, a legacy that continues to this day. Conveniently located just a 10-minute drive from Asahikawa Airport, it gently welcomes all visitors.
The shrine grounds feature a delightful tunnel of colorful pinwheels. The sight and sound of them fluttering in the breeze offer a deeply soothing experience for visitors. This vibrant space can be enjoyed year-round, making it a highly popular attraction.
The scenery becomes especially breathtaking in late autumn, when the striking contrast between the bright pinwheels and the red and yellow autumn leaves creates a stunning visual masterpiece. On clear days, the pinwheels beautifully complement the blue sky, making it an absolutely perfect spot for photography.
Additionally, the shrine's goshuin (shrine stamps) are beloved for their simple yet elegant designs, with the special pinwheel-motif stamps being particularly popular among visitors.
