Shirakaba Kaido (White Birch Road)
This avenue of white birch trees has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Nature Spots in Hokkaido." It stretches for about 4 kilometers along Prefectural Route 966 (Tokachidake Onsen Biei Line), heading towards Shirogane Onsen from the Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Station) Biei "Shirogane Birke."
White birch trees, also known as "pioneer plants," grew naturally on the land devastated by the eruption of Mt. Tokachidake during the Taisho era (1926). On clear days, Mt. Bieidake directly ahead and the striking white trunks of the birch trees create a perfectly balanced, picturesque view.
