Otokoyama Nature Park
One of Hokkaido's largest native fields of dogtooth violets (Katakuri)! Otokoyama Nature Park: A renowned flower spot offering a breathtaking floral carpet and beautiful views of the rolling hills
Just a short drive from downtown Asahikawa, Otokoyama Nature Park unfolds across rolling hills. It is a celebrated floral destination, most famous for its breathtaking spring colonies of native dogtooth violets (Katakuri).
During its limited spring opening (usually mid-to-late April), the hillsides are transformed into a vibrant carpet of soft purple. Visitors are treated to a spectacular succession of Hokkaido's iconic wildflowers blooming in harmony, including Katakuri, delicate Ezo corydalis, and striking Asian swamp lanterns (Mizubasho).
The park features excellently maintained wooden boardwalks and easy, gentle trails. Enjoy a relaxing, scenic walk that leads you up to the panoramic hilltop observation points. On a clear day, you’ll be rewarded with an exhilarating, sweeping vista of the majestic Daisetsuzan and Tokachidake mountain ranges, alongside the pristine waters of the Ishikari River winding through the serene Kamikawa Basin below.
Thoughtfully designed with comfortable rest areas and educational plant markers, the park offers a welcoming, stress-free experience—perfect for families and first-time nature enthusiasts alike.
Grab your camera and time your visit to catch this fleeting, magical spring bloom! Please note that the park's opening dates and peak flower viewing times depend entirely on the weather, so we highly recommend checking the latest updates before planning your trip.
