Furari‑to is a narrow alley in 5‑jo dori 7‑chome, Asahikawa, where the atmosphere of the early Showa era still lingers. Around 1920 (Taisho 9) a central market opened on the site, but the area was largely destroyed by a major fire in 1939 (Showa 14). In the years that followed, long‑standing ramen shops and izakaya took root, and in 2004 (Heisei 16) the neighborhood was christened “5‑7 Koji Furari‑to” after a public naming contest.

The tight lots, wooden signboards and hanging lanterns evoke a bygone age, giving the alley its lively, nostalgic charm. More than 18 eating and drinking establishments line the lane — from izakaya and ramen shops to sushi counters, yakitori joints and a specialty sake shop — and the area is also affectionately known as “Yakitori Koji” for its grilled‑chicken offerings. If you’re staying in Asahikawa, it’s a must‑visit for an atmospheric night out.
