Kurawei Dream

Kura Wai Yume is a complex complex that renovated a group of brick warehouses built adjacent to Asahikawa Station from 1900 (Meiji 33) to 1913 (Taisho 2) as a base for fostering local culture. It consists of four buildings with different characteristics: the Daisetsu Brewery Hall, the Design Gallery, the Collection Hall (Chair’s Gallery), and the Rehearsal Hall, as well as the Kamikawa Warehouse Office, which is still used as an office, and two warehouses, for a total of seven buildings. Both buildings are registered as tangible cultural properties of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and convey the red brick landscape with high architectural historical value to this day.

The design gallery is popular as a place for a wide range of works to be presented by professional designers, students, and citizens, and the exhibitions change almost every week. Every year from June to July, it becomes the venue for “Asahikawa Design Month” and holds special exhibitions to introduce excellent designs. It functions as a base for disseminating design information in Asahikawa.
The collection hall (Chairs Gallery) unveils the collection of world-renowned chair researcher Kenji Oda. A number of masterpiece chairs that remain in the history of furniture design will be exhibited with a different theme every six months. In addition, there is a Daisetsu Microbrewery where you can enjoy local beer and local cuisine, and a rehearsal hall that is used for music and stage practice and presentations. While feeling the breath of the historic architecture, you can stop by for shopping, art appreciation, and café time.
