The Hokuchin Museum is a historical facility that systematically presents the history of Hokkaido's pioneering era and national defense, spanning from the Tondenhei (pioneer soldiers) to the modern Imperial Japanese Army and today's Self-Defense Forces.

Centered around the archives of the former 7th Division (commonly known as the "Hokuchin Division") stationed in Asahikawa, the museum boasts an extensive collection of primary sources, including military uniforms, equipment, maps, photographs, and personal memoirs. Here, visitors can learn in detail how the development of Hokkaido was deeply intertwined with national defense.

Exhibits detailing the division's organization, the evolution of its equipment, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Siberian Intervention offer valuable insights that connect local history with Japan's modern and contemporary history. Through dioramas, exhibition panels, and video footage, visitors can also get a glimpse into the daily lives and military training of the era. It is an ideal destination not only for history enthusiasts but also for students' educational field trips.

Exploring the monuments and related facilities outside the museum will further deepen your understanding. Conveniently located, a visit here can easily be combined with a pleasant city stroll around the nearby Tokiwa Park and art museum area.
