Tenninkyo, located on the east side of Daisetsuzan National Park, is a magnificent valley surrounded by columnar joints formed by a huge eruption about 30,000 years ago.
The highlight of this area is the famous waterfall “Hagoromo Falls”, which has been selected as one of the “100 Best Waterfalls in Japan”.
It boasts the largest drop of about 270 meters in Hokkaido, and the sight of the clear stream flowing down while bending into seven steps is a masterpiece.
To enjoy the full view of the waterfall, we recommend the trek from Tenninkyo Onsen to the waterfall viewing platform (about 80 minutes).
In addition, the strange rock “Shichifuku Rock” that rises sharply towards the sky and the characteristic rock walls also deepen the beauty of the valley.
Especially in early October, the vibrant autumn leaves of rowan and maple adorn the cliffs, creating a beautiful contrast with the waterfalls and rock formations.
