Asahidake Onsen
A supreme place to rest and recover after mountain hiking
Daisetsuzan, the towering range at the heart of Hokkaido often called the “roof of Hokkaido,” is home to the Asahidake Onsen resort at the foot of Mt. Asahidake (2,291 m), the island’s highest peak. Discovered and opened in the early Taisho period, the spring was once known as Yukomanbetsu Onsen. The waters are rich in metasilicic acid, a mineral long prized for its skin‑moisturizing properties, so the hot springs are valued not only for relieving fatigue but also for their beauty benefits. Scattered around Asahidake Onsen are resort hotels, characterful lodges and nostalgic mountain‑hut style inns, where visitors can enjoy a relaxed, memorable stay surrounded by nature. Many facilities also offer day‑use bathing, making the area a popular stop for climbers, hikers and skiers.
