OTOKOYAMA SAKE PARK
The famous sake made by the land of the north "Otoyama"
Blending into the quiet townscape of Asahikawa, Hokkaido, the Otoyama Sake Brewing Library is a place where you can experience the world of traditional sake brewing. The famous sake “Otoyama”, which was loved by the shogun’s family, still inherits the techniques of sake brewing, taking advantage of the underground water and cold climate of the Daisetsuzan Mountains.
Inside the museum, old wooden barrels, sake brewing tools, ukiyo-e prints, and sake vessels are on display, providing a visual reminder of the history of Japan’s sake. From mid-December to February, this is a valuable season when you can see the actual preparation work up close. In the tasting space, you can try multiple brands for free and purchase them on the spot. There are also limited edition sake, sake vessels, and modern Japanese souvenirs, and there is a wide range of multilingual support for visitors from overseas.
In 2024, the hands-on facility “OTOKOYAMA SAKE PARK” was also born. On the open terrace, you can enjoy Japan sake cocktails, sake lees sweets, and snacks made with Asahikawa ingredients, as well as guided tours to observe the preparation process.
One of the attractions is the location that changes with the seasons, such as fresh greenery in spring, blue skies in summer, autumn leaves, and snowy scenery in winter. It is easily accessible from Asahikawa Station in about 20 minutes by car, making it a recommended spot for sightseeing in Hokkaido, where even those who are not familiar with Japan sake can easily enjoy it.
