Nestled within the tranquil streets of Asahikawa, Hokkaido, the Otokoyama Sake Brewery Museum offers an immersive journey into the world of traditional sake brewing. The illustrious "Otokoyama" sake—once favored by the Tokugawa shoguns—proudly carries on its time-honored brewing techniques, harnessing the pristine subterranean waters and the harsh winter climate of the Daisetsuzan mountain range.

The museum features visual displays of sake history, including antique wooden barrels, traditional brewing tools, ukiyo-e prints, and exquisite sake cups. Visiting between mid-December and February offers a rare and thrilling chance to witness the live brewing process up close. At the tasting counter, guests can enjoy complimentary samples of various labels and purchase their favorites directly. The shop also boasts exclusive seasonal sake, beautiful ceramics, and stylish Japanese-modern souvenirs, complemented by comprehensive multilingual support for overseas guests.

In 2024, the brand-new experiential facility "OTOKOYAMA SAKE PARK" opened its doors. Here, visitors can relax on the spacious open terrace with sake cocktails, unique sake-kasu (sake lees) sweets, and light bites featuring local Asahikawa ingredients, or join a guided tour to learn more about the craftsmanship behind the brew.

Beyond the sake, the ever-changing seasonal landscape is a profound charm—from lush spring greenery and brilliant summer skies to striking autumn foliage and serene winter snowscapes. Just a 20-minute drive from Asahikawa Station, it is a highly recommended Hokkaido destination where everyone, from sake aficionados to complete beginners, can enjoy a truly memorable experience.
