Ginga and Ryusei Waterfalls
You can admire a pair of beautiful waterfalls at the same time
Among the many attractions in Sounkyo, the Ginga and Ryusei Waterfalls are particularly popular scenic spots.
Ryusei Waterfall (Meteor Waterfall, 90m drop), which plunges powerfully down the cliff, and Ginga Waterfall (Galaxy Waterfall, 120m drop), which cascades delicately like white threads, stand side by side. Because of their contrasting appearances, Ryusei is also known as the "Male Waterfall" (Otaki) and Ginga as the "Female Waterfall" (Medaki). Together, they are designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls.
A 20-minute hike up the mountain trail from the parking lot takes you to the Sobakudai observation deck. This spot offers a magnificent panoramic view of both waterfalls flowing simultaneously, captivating visitors. Another major appeal is how the scenery changes completely with the four seasons: fresh greenery in spring, vibrant leaves in autumn, and completely frozen "icefalls" during the harsh winter. Please come and experience this harmonious blend of nature's power and elegance up close.
Located in the parking area, the shop "Taki Mintara" is the perfect place to take a break and buy souvenirs.
