Soba restaurant Sobasen at Sensyoen
A popular soba restaurant located in an established traditional Japanese ryokan in Asahikawa's Takasagodai area. Renowned for its flavorful handmade soba noodles using locally sourced Etanbetsu and Horokanai buckwheat flour, along with satisfying teishoku set meals.
Perched on the hills of Takasagodai with a sweeping view of Asahikawa City, traditional Japanese ryokan Sensyoen is a historic inn established in 1938. Located inside the inn, Sobadokoro Sobasen is open to both overnight guests and day visitors, offering a welcoming dining experience.
The highlight is the charming Japanese garden visible through the large windows. Guests can enjoy their meal surrounded by seasonal scenery and the soothing sound of a waterfall—a relaxing atmosphere that lets you forget the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Sobasen takes pride in its authentic handmade soba noodles. Made with high-quality buckwheat flour sourced primarily from Horokanai—Japan's top buckwheat-producing region—as well as nearby Etanbetsu, the dough is freshly crafted by skilled chef in-house every day. True to the basics of "freshly ground, freshly rolled, and freshly boiled," the noodles earn high praise for their rich aroma, texture, and smooth finish.
Alongside the signature soba, the restaurant is equally famous for its light, crispy tempura prepared to order by skilled chefs.
The restaurant offers an extensive menu, featuring over 10 varieties each of hot and cold soba, as well as set meals combining soba with donburi (rice bowls). This wide selection makes it suitable for everything from casual daily meals to relaxed, formal dining.
During lunch hours, popular value sets like the Katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) Set and Tendon (tempura bowl) Set are available, earning high praise for their great value for money.
The spacious interior includes table seating, raised tatami seating, and private rooms, making it a trusted destination for families, meals with seniors, and post-memorial service gatherings.
