Asahikawa Kitasaito Garden
A waterside garden by the station: Asahikawa Kitasaito Garden, where seasonal flowers blend with landscape design
Asahikawa Kitasaito Garden is the heart of the urban landscape project "Kita Saito," located just a short walk from Asahikawa Station's south exit at the confluence of the Ishikari and Chubetsu rivers. Against a backdrop of expansive skies with views of the Daisetsuzan range and waterside scenery, flower beds dominated by perennials, ornamental grasses, and low shrubs paint a palette of seasonal color. From spring buds and early‑summer waves of bloom to grasses that turn golden in autumn and the monochrome textures of frost and snow in winter, the garden’s appearance changes dramatically with each season. Riverside terraces, walking paths, and bike routes make it ideal for picnics, jogging, and photography walks.
The adjacent garden center sells seasonal seedlings and gardening supplies, offers horticultural consultations, and runs workshops. You can pick up plants and tools on the spot while gathering ideas for your own garden. Located within easy walking distance of the station, the garden is a convenient place to rest during a trip or a handy base for exploring nearby museums and the shopping arcade.
